German Chocolate Brownies

On a recent perusal of recipes, I came across this one which I found over 10 years ago from the Duncan Hines website. I don't make this recipe very often but it is well like by German Chocolate Cake fans.

German Chocolate Brownies

½ cup (1 stick) butter plus 2 tablespoons
1 large egg
¼ cup water
1/3 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1/3 cup chopped pecans
1/3 cup flaked coconut

Place oven rack on middle run setting. Preheat oven to 350 degrees farenheit.

Grease 8-inch x 8-inch pan.

In medium to large microwave safe bowl place ½ cup (1 stick) butter and melt in microwave. Add brownie mix, eggs and water. Stir until well blended (about 50 strokes by hand)

Spread batter evenly into greased pan.

In small bowl microwave safe bowl place remaining 2 tablespoons of butter and melt in microwave. Add brown sugar and flour and mix until well blended. Stir in pecans and coconut. Sprinkle mixture over batter.

Place brownies in middle of oven rack and bake for 35 – 38 or until topping is browned. Cool completely in pan prior to cutting and serving. Store any leftovers in air tight container.
